Abstract: From the point view of wavelet transform, gives a decomposition method of the excitation signal for the speech linear prediction model, and presents a new scheme for speech coding, Wavelet - excited linear predictive coding (WELP). Parts of the experimental results are included. It shows that the WELP method can greatly reduce the bit rates compared with other coding methods and may be applied to low bit rates speech coding
