PREPARATION OF 4-( P-CYANOPHENYL ) CYCLOHEXANONE THROUGH CHLO- RACYLAT1ON WITH OXALYL CHLORIDE

4- ( P-cyanophenyl ) cyclohexanone is an intermediate used in the synthesis of various liquid crystals with fine properties. A new route, chloracylation of phenylcyclohexanone with oxalyl chloride and amination followed by dehydration with benzenesulfonyl chloride,is here adopted. Thus two steps can be omitted and the overall yield raised. Factors affecting the reaction are also discussed briefly in this paper.
