2D Finite Element Analyses on the Connecting Rod Tooth-Shape Contact Surface Fretting Behavior

  • Applying the finite element method, the paper studies the fretting behavior of a kind of tooth-shape connecting rod end of a diesel engine. To simplify the connecting rod and establish 2D finite element model, the relative fretting slip values, normal stress and shear stress of the tooth-shape area based on pretightening working condition, and maximal tension working condition, maximal compression working condition are calculated,so as to analyze the fretting friction work parameter W and crack initiation location parameter G.The study also indicates that the fretting problem in tooth-shape is eased by reducing the friction coefficient and the pretightening force between two contact surfaces.
