Numerical Simulation of the Formation of Multimode EFP and Its Penetration Effect to RHA

  • Using different detonation modes in forming(explosively formed projector, EFP) and (stretching rod penetrator, SRP) and based on the structure of cone-cylinder multimode warhead with hemispherical copper liner and octol explosive, EFP formation process with single point at axis and SRP with ring shaped multipoint detonation together with their penetration ability to RHA are simulated using the AUTODYN-2D software. The formation process and penetration ability of damaging cell influenced by different detonation positions are analyzed. Numerical simulation result demonstrated that at 5<em<D</em<<sub<k</sub<(<em<D</em<<sub<k</sub<=charge diameter)standoff with the same warhead structure, the penetration depth to RHA of SRP formed under ideal ring detonation is about twice the penetration depth of EFP.
