Study on Kinematics Properties of Projectile Normal Penetration into Semi-Infinite Concrete Targets

  • To study the kinematics properties of projectile normal penetration into semi-infinite concrete targets, the kinetic equations describing normal penetration into semi-infinite concrete targets and equations determining concrete response were developed on the basis of concrete volumetric deformation, failure behavior and projectile material erosion, which are depicted by the modified Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria and Gruneisen EOS. Numerical solutions of theoretical model show that, when the hit velocity is high, both concrete failure properties and projectile compressibility have significant influence on the projectile penetration effects. The developed model predicts the penetration properties of high velocity projectiles quite well.
