Abstract

To facilitate the processing, manufacturing, and application of AlxCoCrFeNi high entropy alloys (HEAs), The dynamic compressive mechanical properties of forged Al0.5CoCrFeNi dual-phase high entropy alloy under high temperature and high strain rate conditions and material model suitable for cutting are investigated. Compression tests are conducted on the alloy within a wide range of strain rates (10−3-8000 s−1) and temperatures (25°C-800 °C). The results show that the material exhibits strain hardening, strain rate hardening, and thermal softening effects. The deformed specimens after compression display characteristics of severe plastic deformation. Microscopically, there is a mismatch in the deformation between the face-centered cubic (FCC) matrix phase and the body-centered cubic (BCC) phase. The quasi-static high-temperature deformation is dominated by thermal activation, with dislocations bypassing the grain boundaries and inducing discontinuous dynamic recrystallization. While dynamic compression is controlled by phonon damping, the superposition of high temperature and adiabatic temperature rise significantly enhances thermal softening, resulting in obvious deformation localization bands induced by the BCC phase, reflecting the critical state before material failure. The Johnson-Cook (J-C) constitutive model, widely used in cutting simulation, is fitted, and the average relative error of the flow stress fitting is within 15%. Based on this, a finite element model for the cutting simulation of Al0.5CoCrFeNi high entropy alloy was established. The cutting force error was within 10%, and the material mechanical properties were correlated with the macroscopic processing.
